Golden Army were beaten at home soil for the first time in 2021 when they faced the fancy pirates in their 2nd game of the on going Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy.

Coming after a power-packed performance against Maldives, Sri Lankan fans had high hopes with the boys on securing the first win however didn’t go well as planned. Continuous sloppy play and mistakes haunted the team’s performance which lead Seychelles to gain a penalty in the 1st Half. This was not converted luckily and Sri Lanka had a great opportunity which went begging through Mohamed Aakib failed to put in.

Both teams tried creating chances and made several attempts in making the opening however Pirates did get it in subsequently through a corner putting them ahead.

Sooner, Sri Lanka’s tactics did change with Amir Alagic bringing in Sri lanka’s experience players in to the game. However it didn’t help the final result.

Sri Lanka will now require a win and depend on the result of Maldives v Seychelles to make in to the final of Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy.
