Sri Lanka Football put up a full on defensive performance to keep Blue tigers goal less in a 100 minute game at the SAFF Championship 2021. It was after 18 years that Sri lanka were able to keep India off the scoring cards.

This was an important game to the seven-time champions who were yet to begin the tournament with a win did pay the price of not creating enough chances and wasting those they got against a Sri Lankan side. It was an incredible effort by the defensive line who were questionable in the previous games we able to keep the 107th-ranked Indians ineffective from their set-pieces and not do much in open play either.

Duckson Puislas’s return was the key for Lankan Lions who was able to keep the formidable Indian attackers in his pocket throughout the game. He richly deserved the Man of the match award for that.

India who had immense possession, were only able to take 1 shot on target throughout the 11 shots.

Sri lanka did try out counter at regular times but could not convert any. Indians did look frustrated towards the final phases, Igor Stimac was awarded a yellow card on consciousness.

At Full-time whistle, it was a significant milestone to be cherished by Golden Army for keeping India off from scoring. It proved that Sri lanka’s rankings are just a number against mighty India.
